OK, this is all out of date!! I’m working on it!!
Our new chef, who just finished his second year at Grand Valley U., where he is majoring in hospitality management, with an emphasis in food. He’s been here 2 1/2 weeks, and yesterday he kicked me (Raechel) out of “his” kitchen.
Lisa McCormack
Lisa has been here since the beginning, and keeps things humming. She’s the manager of the Alcove, and does everything from wait tables to bake scones to clean out the gardens (or so she has promised).
Maureen is the lead server on the weekends (because she works also as a bookkeeper, among other things).
Riley is another of our employees-with-five-jobs. She’s a dynamo and an artist.
Raechel Wright
I’m the owner, with a dilletante’s bio. Too much education (degrees in math, psych, law, and computer science). At least I can say that it was all paid for by me — I’ve worked fulltime since I was 17. Should have put the money into the stock market. Uh, maybe not that. Maybe I should have put it into gold.
I’ve had more careers than any one person should have, too (grocery store clerk, statistician, computer programmer, psychologist, software designer, lots of software-related things, auditor, lots of exec-level things, and now restauranteur.) I am a mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother.
I’m a long-time peace-nik, although I like to think of myself as more practical than ideological. I’m an environmentalist. I am interested in historical preservation. In incubating new businesses in Charlevoix. And in nurturing the arts. I am proud to see that we have a woman and a black man running for president this year.
And of course I am obsessed by food. And determined to serve you great, healthful food.
My favorite thing in the world is camping. The picture is of me snowshoeing in Yellowstone National Park in January of 2008.

Hey Raechel, what are you doing so far north? My mouth was watering as a reviewed your menu. I sure wish I could come up for a visit (and a taste test). Drop me a line when you have a chance. I’ll send you a photo of my little girl.
