After almost a year of investigation, consideration, and trials, we now have compostable and biodegradable take-out containers, cups, bowls, even cutlery.
The platters are also sturdy, and made of sugarcane, grass, and reed plasma. http://www.webstaurantstore.com/green-wave-tw-poo-012-10-x-12-5-white-biodegradable-platter-125-pk/999TWPOO012.html
The cutlery shown here is compostable and biodegradable. It is heat-resistant, microwavable, and freezer safe. They’re made from sugar cane fiber, a natural by-product of the sugar refining process. http://www.amazon.com/Jaya-Biodegradable-Knife-Spoon-250-Count/dp/B000JKRBKI/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=1217897190&sr=8-9
What now? I would like to work with all of the restaurants in Charlevoix to replace our environmentally-unfriendly take-out containers with environmentally-friendly ones. And I’d like to see Charlevoix’s City Council ban the use of syrofoam and plastic for this purpose. And here’s the best part: it really doesn’t cost any more to use these products than it does to use the harmful ones.
